When you are planning your home theater it can be confusing to find a starting point. There are ten main things that most people overlook when they plan their theater. This is not a unabridged record on how to originate a theater, merely critical points that will help your theater stand out.

1.) Don’t waste your money on costly name brand cables. Do buy ability cables, but don’t blow your budget on 0 sub-woofer cables. Do buy low gauge (thicker) speaker wires and shielded cables, especially for long runs. A well made cable will sound just as good as an overpriced cable, use your money elsewhere.

Audio Bookcase

2.) Evenly disperse your funds in audio and video. If you buy a cutting edge 60 inch 1080p 3D Tv, but have old mismatched speakers, and no center channel you are wasting your time. A great home theater will have both ability audio and ability video. Sometimes the budget dictates what you can put in your theater, but remember to put equal emphasis on audio as it often gets forgotten.

3.) Allow for time to come expansion in your receiver. You probably can’t afford the best-of-the-best for all your components, but don’t skimp on your receiver. It processed both audio and video so a bad receiver will make even the best Tv and speakers under-perform. Make sure you buy a receiver that has Hdmi1.4, you may not need it now but you will in the future, think about the A/V tool you had 5 years ago; do you want your receiver to last that long and still keep up? With proper study you can select a receiver that will meet your budget and requirements.

4.) Don’t wait’ for a new time to come technology to come out One of the biggest mistakes is waiting for a new great technology to come out. This doesn’t mean don’t buy time to come friendly equipment, it just means enjoy your principles now, something great is always on the horizon. One prime example it 3D Tv. If 3D isn’t in your budget (its getting cheaper) don’t wait 2 years with your old Crt Tv. Get a decent Hdtv now and upgrade later. If you can afford a 3D Tv, don’t wait around for glasses free 3D, you might not even want a 3D Tv, you could use that budget elsewhere.

5.) select a Tv size that matches you room size. study television viewing distance to find your best fit. If you have a small room get a small Tv, you will save money, and still have the same ability theater experience. If you have a large room, don’t try a skimp with a 32inch Tv. If you have a small room think sticking to 720p, with smaller Tv’s the discrepancy in the middle of a ability 720p source and a 1080p source is minimal. If you need a large Tv make sure you get one that has a native resolution of 1920×1080, anyone smaller will look choppy.

6.) always optimize your components with a test disk this is a great, cheap (maybe even free) way to make the Wow factor appear. Speakers that are out of phase, color tints that are off, or incorrect volume levels will all ruin your perfectly put together system. A straightforward optimization disk can help you fine tune your principles to they way it is meant to be heard. Many Dvd’s already have a built in optimizer, for example “Finding Nemo”, “Toy Story” and “Star Wars: A new Hope” offer Thx optimization in the main menu. If you don’t have one of these disks, or want to fine tune check out Disney’s Wow disk. It’s simple, easy to use and has easy to see and hear results. Plus it’s cheap. There are other disks out there that are good as well, just take a look online for well reviewed optimization discs. You can also go the professional route and get a Spyder Tv colorimeter, but it’s more costly and expensive.

7.) Get a ability universal remote. If you are like most you have 4 remote controls sitting on your coffee table. Once you purchase a universal remote you will see how annoying that mess was. With a universal remote you can set one button to turn all of your tool on and off, other to change to Dvd, dim the lights and close the blinds, and even change your receiver into Movie Mode. When buying a universal remote don’t get an off brand remote from Wal-Mart. Harmony is probably the best known brand but Urc also makes ability remotes. The bottom price Harmony 300 will run you around and is well worth it. You can also use a universal remote with your Xbox/Ps3 or Htpc.

8.) The biggest Tv is not always the best. select a smaller television with 1080p instead of a largest 720p in order to stay in your budget. If you have a small room you will be great off with a smaller Tv anyway, you can use the money saved on great speakers! If you are going the projector route keep in mind the resolution of the screen is going to be the same as a 60inch Lcd, but since it is stretched over 100″ the pixel pitch will appear higher, causing the image ability to be less than that of the 60″ Tv.

9.) Keep it organized! If you have even tried to add a new component or replace a wire in a messy setup you already know why this is important. Not only will organized wires look great and be easier to upgrade but they could actually enhance your video and audio quality. It is a well known fact that interference causes noise in audio and video signals, much of this interference comes from electrical signals. Route your power cables together away form your audio and video cables, and if they do have to cross make sure they do so at a 90 angle. This will limit the interference caused and keep your signal strong.

10.) Last but not least acoustically treat your theater room. This doesn’t mean you have to soundproof your room, although that would be optimal. You can add acoustic treatments actually by adding items such as thick carpets or rugs, thick drapes and even a bookcase. A ability theater will have aspects of audio absorption and diffusion. Carpets, rugs, curtains and thick couches will provide absorption, reducing unwanted audio reflections. Challenging surfaces are best located in the middle of you and your main speakers; this will keep the sound clean. A bookcase, best located behind you will provide diffusion to surround channels providing a more life like sound stage.

Keep these tips in mind when planning your theater and your friends and house will be in awe.
